- in the mid 1700's, the Britain fought in two very expensive wars , the French and Indian War . it lead him to be in major debt, so he had to look for a way to make money. and thought he could take advantage of the colonists to pay off his debt.
- Boston Tea Party
- to be able to pay for his debt he passed the Stamp Act, this act allowed them to put expensive tax stamps on material such as all legal documents, newspapers, books and calendars. along with this act came many other acts that put the colonist in a tight spot

- not long after the Stamp Act was gone, Britain declared the Declaratory Act that meant the colonies were dependent in the king and they had no control of all laws passing in the colonies, the king declared many laws after the declaratory act to have absolute power over them.
- Treaty of Paris
- during the Boston tea party. the colonists were very angry about the new law called the tea act which taxed tea ,so they snuck onto a cargo ship during the night and dumped hundreds of crates of tea into the boston harbor
