- The beginning of the boat
- Off to explore the world!
- By carving out wood and lining it in reeds, I can float in my boat.
- Going faster
- Now that we can travel faster by boat, I can see my family and friends far who live far away.
- Traveling the world
- Now that boats can go farther distances, I can take vacations like this!
- In 3500 BC, the first boat is created. By carving out a log and lining it with reeds, the first boat will float! This boat is the start of an exciting journey for marine travel and exploration.
- Train travel
- When we made passenger train cars, we were able to transport many people faster than horse carriages.
- In the mid 19th century, steamships have changed the way that people travel by ocean. More people have access to ocean travel because instead of buying a boat, people only have to by tickets.
- Improving on the train
- Now, with powerful and efficient engines, boats of the 20th century can overseas in just 1 week. This technology had a massive impact on the growing travel and tourism industry.
- In 1830 the first passenger railway was created. It connected Liverpool with Manchester, England. It changed the way both people and freight are transported.
- Starting in the late 19th century, trains became more powerful. With the ability to transport extremely heavy loads of freight and more people.
- After we had access to better parts like engines and wheels. After building on the previous generation of trains, we were able to travel much faster and efficiently than the first trains.
