- " we finally succeeded in entering. inside, too the snow was thick. i let myself slide to the ground. only now did i feel the full extent of my weekness." (88). Every prison was tired of running , the brick house was piled with snow, and even that felt warm as a blanket
- "the germans were already in our town, the fascists were already in power, the verdict was already out and the jews of sighet were still smiling when the germans took over and stayed in jewish people homes with out consent. To elie, it seemed as the jews were just letting the germans do this all while smiling
