  • Newton's Second Law of Motion.
  • Okay I'm excited to do this experiment. Let's start!
  • Lets do something different today, we will test which ball needs lesser hand movement. Here I have two different kinds of balls, a tennis ball and a cricket ball.
  • The two boys are going to test which ball needs more or less force to catch. Starting first with the tennis ball
  • I'm going to throw the tennis ball, catch it.
  • OKAY!
  • Now we will do it with the cricket ball.
  • Oh! That was easy to catch. Not much work to do.
  • How was that?
  • I'm going to throw the cricket ball, catch it.
  • Now they are going to test it with the cricket ball and then they are going to conclude the experiment.
  • OKAY!
  • I got hurt. This catch was way more difficult than catching the other ball.
  • How was that?
  • Now I will tell you why you got hurt while catching the cricket ball whereas you didn't get hurt when you were catching the tennis ball.
  • There is a reason behind why my friend got hurt. It was that he didn't apply Newton's Second Law of Motion. Generally, if hands are lowered while catching any ball, the catcher can increase the time of catching the ball which results the rate of change of momentum decreasing by Newton's Second Law of Motion. The force exerted on his hands will be less which will hurt him a little bit. This concept even has an equation which is known as F=ma which means Force is equal to mass times acceleration.
  • Yes, now I understand the concept of Newton's Second Law of Motion. Thank you my friend!
