Storyboard Text

  • Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the main leaders of the black movement between the 1950s and 1960s in the United States. His demonstrations were characterized by moving oratory and the defense of his ideals in a peaceful way. He was the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1964.
  • A Protestant pastor and owner of a unique oratory, he managed to bring together crowds around the fight for racial equality and civil rights for black people. His death in 1968 was mourned around the world and, despite several achievements, such as the approval of civil rights for black people, there was much to be done to end racism in the United States. The day of his birth, January 15th, became a national holiday, a way to honor him and remember his fight to end inequality.
  • At that time, there were laws in American states that separated blacks and whites. People were judged according to the color of their skin, and not by the actions they took. This segregation, often experienced by King himself and his family, not only marked his life, but also encouraged him to organize demonstrations against segregationism and demand civil rights for black people.
