- In February 18, 1888, Rizal visited Macau on board Kiu-Kiang ship, together with Jose Ma. Basa. They stayed at Don Juan Lacaros' residence.
- Good day Don Juan! We came all the way from Hong Kong.

- Catholic cemetery was the most expensive and Muslim cemetery was the simplest.

- Rizal left Hong Kong on board Oceanic on February 22, 1888 to Japan. He arrived on the 28th of February in Japan. He met Juan Perez Caballero, Secretary of Spanish Legation.

- Rizal met O-Sei-San. Daughter of former Samurai. Cultured, beautiful and wise. She taught Rizal Japanese language and culture, they later bacame lovers but Rizal left her for his mission. Rizal then went to United States.

- The people here are so polite and charming. There are also just a few beggars and thieves.
- Rizal noticed the beauty and cleanliness of Japan. Politeness and simple charm of Japanese women. He was embarassed because he can't speak their language even though he looked like a Japanese.
- But, what a shame. I can't speak their language.
- Wow! Japan is spectacular. It is just clean, safe and beautiful.
