- A flood washes a young mongoose called Rikki Tikki Tavi away from his burrow and a family rescues him after finding him in front of their house
- Climax
- Rikki Tikki goes out into the garden. He meets Darzee the tailorbird. Darzee warns him about two snaked Nag and Nagaina. Later, Rikki Tikki encounters Nag and Nagaina, who tried to kill Rikki Tikki.
-  Falling action
- Rikki Tikki overheard Nag and Nagaina's plan to kill the family. When Nag sleeps next to the water jar, Rikki Tikki kills him in the bathroom and saves the family.
- Nag and Nagaina are dead!
- Darzee's wife fakes a broken wing to distract Nagaina. She leaves her nest and tries to chaze Darzee's wife. Rikki Tikki finds the nest and starts to kill the unhatched eggs. 
- Rikki Tikki spares the last egg and tells Nagaina he will give her the egg if she doesn't kill Teddy. Nagaina begs for the egg, and when she had the chance, she grabs the egg and runs into the cobra hole. Rikki Tikki follows her, and kills her and the last egg.
- Darzee thinks that Rikki Tikki died, because he said, "It is all over with Rikki Tikki! We must sing his death song." Just then, Rikki Tikki comes out of the cobra hole covered in dirt. When Rikki Tikki got to the house, The family is very happy that Rikki Tikki saved their lifes, and feeds him until he could eat no more. But Rikki Tikki was not too proud, even though he killed two snakes by himself.
