  • Soldiers Quarters
  • During the Winter at Valley Forge, there were freezing winters which let to shortages of food, clothes, etc. This caused lots of hunger and sickness throughout the town.
  • Problems Faced by the Soldiers #1
  • Washingtons headquarters was built about 1773, also known as the Isaac Potts house. It was made his headquarters around 1778.
  • Problems Faced by the Soldiers #2
  • The soldiers lived in small 14x16 log houses that only took a week to build. These houses kept about 12,000 soldiers warm during the cold winter.
  • Training with Baron Fredrick von Steuben
  • At Valley Forge, there were shortages of everything including food, medicine, and even clothes. This was caused by the cold winters.
  • Many soldiers were also exposed to many diseases and hunger. These diseases and starvation killed many of Washington's men.
  • Baron Fredrick con Steuben had the soldiers go through intense training. He trained them to act quickly on the battlefield, and march in mile-long lines.
