- Countess Rebecca loved her flower garden and went to take a horse ride through it, not knowing a bad storm was coming.
- Rebecca's horse spooked by the loud thunder, and jumped which caused her to fall from the horse and hit her head. She was so injured she just laid in the mud.
- The Count worried about his wife and went out to find her. He was shocked when he found her injured on the ground.
- The count carried Rebecca back to their large plantation and sent for the doctor to come and treat her.
- Rebecca was seen by the doctor but there was nothing more he could do for her injuries but make her comfortable. She laid in bed with her husband close by.
- The Count was stricken with grief over the loss of his beloved wife. He stayed in his room for days crying.
- The Count spent all of his days visiting the flower gardens that Rebecca loved, writing secrets in a diary that he kept with him at all times. His servants became very worried about him.
- The servants noticed the count taking jewels, money and other valuable items out of the plantation late at night, for weeks. No one knew where he was going or what he was doing with all of the treasures.
- Unable to sleep in the bed where his wife died he had it removed. The Count became very ill from lack of sleep and no longer eating. No one saw his diary again and slowly the count began to mourn himself to death.
- The Count was laid to rest in the same mausoleum as his beloved wife. The servants were all sent away to work at nearby plantations.
- All of the servants were sent to work at nearby plantations. Quickly rumors started to spread that the Count had hid all of his fortune before he died and left a series of clues in his diary of where the treasure could be found.
- Soon word spread all through town of the Count's buried treasure and it seemed the whole world was out searching for it!
