- My dear friend Fortunato, I am glad I got to see you.
- A carnival is taking place and Fortunato is not aware but he had insulted Montressor and Montressor would not let him get away with it.
- Montressor! What a lovely night it is.
- Fortunato does not know that Montressor is upset about him insulting Montressor or that Montressor has a plan of revenge.
- Such a pleasant night and a coincidence that he is already drunk.
- I happened to find a pipe that passes for Amontillado. I could not say if it is true or not so I sought out for you, my friend.
- Amontillado!? Truly impossible! We're in the middle of a carnival.
- Fortunato does not realize that Montressor is using his own emotions against him in order for his plan to work.
- "I have my doubts, and I was silly enough to pay the full Amontillado price without consulting you in the matter. You were not to be found, and I was fearful of losing a bargain."
- I already have it at my house. Seeing as you are preoccupied I shall go to Luchesi-
- How could Montressor not approach me if it was Amontillado for sale?
