  • Hello, I'm Richard Dawkins. Let me tell you something about what people call "Pascal's Wager". This is an interesting argument commonly used to scare people into religon.
  • Pascal's Wager is used to say "Well, if you don't believe in god and turn out to be wrong, you will face eternal damnation in hell. If I do believe in god and turn out to be wrong, nothing happens.".
  • The reason this argument is invalid is quite obvious I would think. If you believe in god based on this reason, wouldn't an all-knowing god know that you only believe to escape punishment?
  • Another interesting thing that religious people do to argue with science is the "You can't prove that he doesn't exist."
  • The issue with this is that science does not need to disprove god for us to be fairly certain that a god does not exist. People think that if we can't prove it, then it must be a 50/50 shot. That is not the case.
  • God being real vs science trying to disprove god is not a 50/50 situation. That is why almost all scientists do not believe in a higher power, it just is not likely. Miracles do not happen, god does not strike people down, the laws of physics do not change.
