  • One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is that blaming others and trying to find a scapegoat can lead to negative consequences. For example, when people started blaming Mr. Goodman and he got mad is a pretty good example by showing how people can act negatively when they are accused of being an alien and showing that what could've happened would be way worse. In addition, when people started accusing Steve his wife Mrs. Brand got really worried and started babbling and repeating out words to protect him and make them stop going against him. Then, when the aliens were talking about how they would just have to scare the humans to make them go against each other and then destroy themselves slowly shows how much easier the humans are making it for the aliens to take over. So, humans attacking each other and trying to find a scapegoat is leading to negative consequences by making it easier for the aliens to win. In conclusion, trying to find a scapegoat is not the best way to solve things and doesn't always end well.
