The Cold War began in 1947 and lasted till 1989. It was a political rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. Later their respective allies were developed in which were the eastern and western bloc. The Cold war was prominent to getting both the U.S and Soviet involved in foreign conflicts such as the Cuban Missile war.
During the Cold War the "Iron Curtain" was a political method to describe the division between Western Europe from the Soviet union. This term was used by the Soviet Union to block itself and its satellite states from contact with the west. President Winston Churchill gave a speech and presented how divided the country was. Churchill said that an iron curtain had fallen and that the country was divided into the democratic west of the U.S and the republican to the east. This speech caused the west to ask for more such as land but they failed.
NATO was an organization that was being used in the Cold War. This organization focused on the protection of its people from threats that the Soviet Union could cause. In addition, NATO was used to strengthen the Western allies military from possible invasions from the Soviet Union. NATO supported and relied on America due to America having the largest nuclear arsenal on earth but also thought of it as a threat so NATO wanted to solve things peacefully without having to bring in nuclear weapons.
The Korean War was a conflict that happened between North and South Korea. China and the Soviet Union supported North Korea while the United Kingdom and the United States supported South Korea. The spread of communism from the Cold War was a starter of this war. In addition, this war began when North Korea invaded south korea on June 25.
