- Poirot sees Jacqueline and Simon
- She cares too much, that little one. It is not safe... No, it is not safe.
- Poirot sees, without knowing who they are, Jacqueline and Simon at the same restaurant he is in.
- Linnet´s and Joannas´s talk
- Joanna is in Linnet´s house talking about how she always gets what she wants
- Come now, you are a tyrant, admit it. A beneficent tyrant if you like!
- I'm not the least bit of a tyrant!
- Charles arrives
- M. Blondin invites M. Poirot to sit down at a privileged table. The proprietor of the restaurant pays special attention to his special client.
- “Am I being a brute? I suppose, if I’m not sure, I ought to say ‘No’—”
- Don’t say it. You shall have time—as much time as you want. But I think, you know, we shouldbe happy together

- Linnet´s thoughts
- I, Linnet Ridgeway, wouldn’t exist any longer. I would be Countess of Windlesham, bringing a fine dowry to Charltonbury and its master. I would be queen consort, not queen any longer
- Linnet meets Simon

- While Joanna and Linnet were talking, Charles arrives. Joanna leaves them alone and Charles asks Linnet about his marriage proposal
- Charles leaves and Linnet starts to think about the consequences if she gets married with Charles.
- Linnet´s thoughts are interrupted by the arrival of Jacqueline and her fiance. Linnet seems to like him a bit too much.
