- In this scene the Tangs are becoming new managers of the motel Calvista the owner Mr Yao is handing over the keys to them to officially become the new owners of the motel. This scene is important because it shows Mia and her family officially having something in America because they are immigrants from china.
- Even though you aren't paying full there is still that extra hospital fee of 150$
- I can pay that I have that right here in this bag from the tip jar!
- In this scene mia is working at the front desk of the motel and assisting everyone that checks in and out. She has the tip jar on the desk so she can make some of her own money and she has the blue cap next to her to let the immigrants know if mr Yao is there or not so the immigrants can have a place to stay for a little while. This scene is important because it shows how mia feels like she has a real purpose and how she has a big responsiblity of her own now in America.
- In this scene Mia shows her mom her English essay which she did not do good. Mrs Tang calls Mia a bicycle because she thinks mia is not good at english and her mom just wants ehr to be good at Math and not english because Mrs Tangs thinks that she will not be good at english. The scene is important because Mia wants to prove to her mom that she is not a icycle and she is good at english and she wants to her mom wrong.

- In this scene The Tangs just got there bill from the Hospital after Mia's mom got attacked by a patient. But the ice doctor said he would pay for it after they explained there issue. They still have to pay the fee and her parents are stressed about the money but Mia has her money from the tip jar that she has been collecting for the essay contest, so mia gives all her money so that her parents don't have to pay. This scene is important because it shows how mia can take respondbilty and how she is not selfish about anything she is selfless it shows how mia is as a person
- In this scene Mia and her family and all the people that put in there money are celebrating because they got enough money to buy the calvista from Mr Yao. This scene is important because now mia feels like she now belongs in America and is not a outsider. Her and her family now work for themselves and can go this that they want for their business.
- In this scene it is showing hwo Mia rights her letters and how she uses them to help people out and to solve problem. This scene is important because it shows how mia is always problem solving and how she has grown as a writer. She shows how she is not a bicycle and is good at english.
