Dear Marley, Wow, thats scary! My mom was looking up articles the other day and found things about lead in water. California's water has 5 parts per billion of lead in it while Flint's has 20 parts per billion. Which is bad! Do you know why the water is so bad in Flint? From, Wes.
Dear Wes!Our water is bad because the town of Flint was out of money and about to go bankrupt. Without telling the people in Flint, the government changed our water source from treated water in Detroit's system to untreated water in the Flint River as a way of cutting costs. The people in my town didn't even know, and nobody is happy about it because the new water is dangerous and unsafe to be ingested. From, Marley
Marley,I learned about this in school the other day! We had a conversation about environmental racism, and Flint is a prime example of this. Because of where you live, you experience inequality in your environmental experiences, such as your water source. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you! Sincerely, Wes
Marley wrote back suggesting that Wes spread information about environmental racism in her school as a way of helping. Wes teamed up with the environmental action club at her school, and made posters to put up around the halls and educate her classmates.
Environmental Racism!!!
