- The Bear has entered the cabin and is approaching Lyddie and her family. Most of the family is scared but Lyddie stands up to the bear to try and help her family. This creates a person v. nature conflict because Lyddie has a conflict with animals, one of the characteristics of nature.
- Lyddie has to decide whether or not to go to the mills to get a job or try to keep her job in the tavern. This creates a person v. self conflict for Lyddie as she has internal conflict and has to make a difficult choice.
- Lyddie comes back from her 2-day break and is yelled at by the mistress. This creates a person v. person conflict for Lyddie as they have a disagreement and the mistress has a problem with Lyddie. The numbers represent the order of speaking 1-3.
