It was king Leonidas leading the Greeks versus king Xerxes and the Persians. This battle was only started because Xerxes wanted revenge for his father, King Darius 1 after the battle of Marathon. The battle field was narrow surrounded with water and mountains. This time the Persians were prepared, and the Greeks were way out numbered. All their Spartan allies died, but the Athenians were able to escape. Persians won!!

This was the last and final battle whoever won, won the war. But in this battle the Athenians were outnumbered again, 300 vs 1,200. The only advantage the Athenians had were having smaller ships and able to move around faster. The Greeks won and regained their control of the Aegean Sea.
