- His wife Margaret of Anjou doesn’t approve however, and she doesn’t trust the Duke, leading to tension at court…

- Battle of St Albans-1455
- This tension leads to the battle that marks the beginning of the wars of the roses.The Duke of York confronted and captured Henry VI and increased his own power over the king.

- Battle of Wakefield-1460
- At Wakefield the Lancastrians crushed the Yorkists, killing the Duke of York and reinstating king Henry VI. The duke of York was succeeded by his son Edward duke of York.

- The most decisive battle of the period was fought at Towton. After the battle ended in a brutal Yorkist victory, Edward deposed Henry VI and took the crown for himself.
- Battle of Towton-1461
- Slide: 5
- The Duke of Warwick was not satisfied with the position and power the king had given him. Warwick’s rebellion succeeded in toppling Edward IV and restoring Henry VI to the throne
- Warwick Rebellion + Battle of Barnet-1471
- Warwick’s triumph was short lived, as not long after Edward IV launched his bid for the throne again. The two sides met at the battle of Barnet where Edward reestablished himself as king after Warwick was killed.

- This battle settled the question of who would be king of England. Richard III was defeated and killed. Henry Tudor took the throne and was crowned Henry VII, ending the Wars of the Roses.
