Monsters are due on Maple Street; Stereotypes can be destructive.
Stereotypes can be destructive is the theme of Monsters are Due on Maple Street because first, on page 77, Mr. Goodman is accused by a woman of watching the sky as if waiting for someone to take him. The woman says I'd come out on the porch and I'd see Mr. Goodman here in the wee hours of the morning standing out in front of his house...looking up at the sky. Then on page 81, Don tells Steve that Myra talked about how Steve spends plenty of nights spending hours on some kind of radio, but that no one has ever seen that radio. Finally, on page 85, Tommy is accused by Charlie that he is the monster because of how he predicted what would happen because of the events that occurred after the flashing light. Stereotypes can be destructive in problems like these.

It's the kid. It's Tommy. He's the one.
