- During 1347, the plague first arrived to Europe, when twelve ships from the Black Sea stopped at a port in Messina. When people got around the ships, almost all the sailors were either dead or very sick, and covered in black boils, blood, and pus. They tried to get the ships out as fast as they could, but the damage was done. Over the next five years, the plague would take over twenty million lives.
- The prime reason why the plague started was because of flea infested rats. These rats would bite people and infect them with the deadly disease. The rats could be found nearly all across Europe, however they were most common aboard on ships, that stopped by different ports for trade. Since the ships stopped at nearly every city, so did the plague, killing millions. Once someone was infested it became easy for the plague to spread.
- The plague doctors were a significant part of the plague because they were the people who tried to cure patients who had the the plague. They are sort of like uncertified doctors. The plague doctors would use many different techniques to try to cure the plague, like using blood sucking leeches, however none of these methods worked. It is also believed that these plague doctors did more bad then good, and actually caused more deaths because of botched attempts of a cure.
