- Here Walt is looking at the stampeders wondering what they doing there, and especially was wondering about what they were discussing? The stampeders were discussing about stealing the claims in the Yukon (text: The King Of Mazy May paragraph 14)

- "If we can get to Dawson and record, we're rich men; and there is no telling who's been sneaking along in our tracks, watching us, and perhaps now off to give the alarm. The thing for us to do is to rest the dogs a bit, and then hit the trail as hard as we can. What do you say?"

- With an experienced eye, Walt is trying to get the yoke straps of the dogs and find a leader dog out of the team to help him reach the camp and warn the campers.( Paragraph 19)
- "I need to get a sled and dogs to help me get to the camp."

- Here Walt using a running sled trying to make the dogs go faster before the stampeders can catch up to him but there was too many ice-jams on the way, He felt as brave as a lion. ( paragraph 25)
