  • I attended school at an Elizabethan mansion in a rayless English village. However, it still was a picturesque town.
  • Characters: Dr. Bransby, Lord Glendinning
  • I remember walking down the algid tree-lined streets, smelling the flowers on the hedges, and listening to the hollow ring of the bell in the steeple.
  • Dr. Bransby: paradox of a harsh headmaster and a quiet minister.
  • The campus was enclosed by a high brick wall topped with mortar and broken glass.
  • Summary: William Wilson's stalked by an imposter.
  • Ironically our stern principal was also our church's timid preacher. From our pew on the balcony, I regarded him with wonder.
  • The largest room was the single classroom. It was long and narrow with pointed Gothic windows.
  • In one corner of the room, measuring 8 or 10 square ft. was Dr. Bransby's office, which we were forbidden to enter.
