  • The mummy has had it's brain flushed out of his head and his organs were removed, but still has his heart. They then covered him in salt and wrapped him to dry him out. He was now ready to enter the after life.

  • It is beleived that Orisis was not only ruler of the dead but also the power that granted all life from the underworld, from sprouting vegetation to the annual flood of the Nile River. From about 2000 bce onward it was believed that every man, not just the deceased kings, became associated with Osiris at death.

  • Amulets were wrapped in the layers of bandages. They were like lucky charms to protect the deceased person in the afterlife.Scarab beetle amulets were very special as they were a symbol of rebirth and regeneration. They were usually placed over the heart to protect the heart during the ‘weighing of the heart’ ceremony, where the god Anubis checks whether or not an individual had led a good life.

  • The deceased was buried with everyday objects for use in the afterlife. Grave goods included pots (the majority of the items), combs, stone vessels, and slate palettes on which malachite, the green eye cosmetic, was ground. Sometimes there were figurines and objects of copper, beads, and amulets.
