  • FAST FORWARD...
  • Andres, what happened at the Tejeros Convention?
  • How could you say it was rigged?
  • Before the election began, an anonymous person said to me that he personally discovered the underhand work of some of the Imus crowd who had quietly spread the statement that it was not advisable that they be governed by men from other pueblos, and that they should for this reason strive to elect Captain Emilio as President.
  • I was doubted of my capabilities to have a position in the election which was obviously rigged by the defendant's loyalists.
  • The witness is excused. Does the defense rest?
  • Thank you. I have no further questions.
  • Antonio, how would you explain your relationship with the defendant?
  • Why do you think so?
  • Yes, Your Honor.
  • It seemed to me that it was because he wanted our military, especially his close friends, to not only be undisciplined but be in good terms with the Americans.
  • It felt pretentious. He did not approve of my disciplinary methods toward the military.
  • What did you do after the Tejeros Convention?
  • Thank you. I have no further questions.
  • I wrote the Acta de Tejerossigned by me and 44 important officers of the Katipunan, proclaiming the Tejeros Convention as invalid because of its lack of due process, and also because of the underhanded chicanery that marred its elections.
  • The jury is thanked and excused. Court is adjourned.
  • Will the jury foreperson please stand? Has the jury reached a unanimous verdict?]
  • The jury finds the defendant guilty due to lack of evidence.
  • Yes, Your Honor.
  • Ladies and gentlemen of the jury: The judge has told you that we must prove two things. There is absolutely no question about the two things we must prove. First, the defendant signed a contract regarding selling the Philippines to Americans. And second, his former right hand, former president of the first Philippine republic and leader of the Katipunan, former general under the defendant, and a certified fingerprint examiner testified that the defendant truly is guilty. Based on the evidence, you must find the defendant guilty.
  • Ladies and gentlemen of the jury : Emilio was unlucky to be set up by a man he previously trusted as his right hand. His former right hand resigned after setting the defendant up all so he could, one day, get his power and position. My client’s fingerprints were found on the contract because his former right hand having great access to him and his belongings and setting him up. I suggest to you that the real traitor here is Apolinario, Emilio’s former right hand. Remember that under the law my client is presumed to be innocent. The plaintiffs must prove every partof its case beyond a reasonable doubt – that means that you must be very sure. My client is the only person who knows what he intended, and testified under oath that he did not sign any contract with the Americans. Therefore, you must find [him/her] not guilty.
