Most Loyalists still thought that the King had there best interests at heart and the high taxes were so they could pay for protection which was partially correct. the high taxes were meant to make up for the money lost to the war. but while the colonies barely got by, the Richer Class did not need to pay such high taxes, and had a much more lavish life style.

This entire situation was the product of the Kings relentless taxation of the Colonies and every one inside them! This particular tax was called the Stamp Act. This forced people to buy a stamp for anything paper even a deck of cards.
