  • In February of 1963, people were accused of practicing witchcraft in Massachusetts, America. When Christianity began to spread, witchcraft came to be linked with worship of the Devil, meaning people who were accused of witchcraft were hung to their death or even burnt alive.
  • There were different ways to test if a person was a witch. Any strange mark such as a birth mark, mole or scar indicated the person was a witch. The accused was thrown into a lake, if they sank they were innocent, if they floated they were a witch.
  • That witch!
  • They won't ever suspect a thing.
  • What have I done to deserve this? I haven't done anything wrong! I'm being falsely accused.
  • Most of the victims were women but men were being accused as well. 20 men and women were convicted and hung as witches. In other countries, witches were burnt alive. People were also tortured until they would confess. It was truly a horrible time for both men and women.
