I met my Mentor at Howard, Charles Hamilton, who turned me into the man I was.
He started his journey by attending Lincoln University and, more importantly, Howard University of Law, where he was mentored by Charles Hamilton Houston, who was a prominent African American lawyer, the dean at Howard, and the first special counsel at the NAACP.
As a young lawyer, Thurgood fought for black teachers in the US to be paid fairly and equally to white teachers in the US. After his graduation, Marshall took over Hoiston’s position as special counsel at the NAACP. As Special Counsel, “he participated in numerous landmark Supreme Court cases involving civil rights, including Smith v. Allwright, Morgan v. Virginia, Shelley v. Kraemer, McLaurin v. Oklahoma State Regents, Sweatt v. Painter, Brown, and Cooper v. Aaron.
