Storyboard Text

  • Frederick Douglass gets overheated when he is working in the fields and when he attempts to get up he falls back down again. Covey comes with a hickory slat and gives him a blow in the head, yelling at Frederick to get up.
  • What's the matter here huh? Get up you slave, get up I tell you!
  • Rising Action
  • He shall do his worst, I have made up my mind.
  • Frederick came back to the plantation and went to the barn to work, but Covey entered angry and ready to attack. They begun fighting each other and Covey used his long rope while Frederick fought back. Frederick did not back down, he continued to fight and Covey was surprised.
  • *trembles*Um well I am a little taken back, this was certainly unexpected.
  • Climax
  • I will fight back using a spirit inside of me, I shall rise. Why do you look so nervous huh tough man?
  • Frederick Douglass is reflecting on his life after the fight and is changing as a person. His mindset on life has changed and how he views the world and everyday life.
  • My old spirit is coming back along with the freedom that sparks in my mind. I have changed as a person, I don't view myself as a slave anymore. ¨However long I might remain a slave in form, the day had passed forever when I could be a slave in fact.¨ (p.14)
