- As Katniss is already allied with our second main lead, Peeta Mellark, she decides not to create any alliances for further troubles down the line.
- Once the players reach the capital, they are forced to meet each other in the training grounds. This is where alliances and rivalries will be created.

- During the peak action of the novel, Katniss is able to defend herself and Peeta from incoming attacks from both mutts and the rest of the players.. Here she's able to stand her ground and eventually defeat everyone. But an unforeseen problem comes to hand, only one winner is allowed, meaning Katniss and Peeta must fight. Rejecting these rules, they decide to both commit suicide in defiance of the capital, safely earning the support of the people in the name of "love" and forcing the game makers to let the both of them win

- During the end of the book, both Katniss and Peeta are deemed the Victors of this annual hunger games, allowing them to go back home to their families. Here Katniss has a heartfelt reunion with her mother and sister. Thus ending the the 74th annual hunger games.
