- Russia started printing money to pay for world war one. This caused inflation and food was at an all time low, people were straving and raiding graneries were the only way to survive. The govt. only had only two days’ worth of bread reserves, a situation that jammed railroads, river ports, and roads. Women were the most common group of people to riot
- Russia eneter world war 1 unprepared. They were not industrialized like the rest of Europe causing them to lose many battles and 80% of there soldiers. The people were furouis with the Czar. The Czar blamed the downfall of Russia on anarchisits, universities and Jews. The loss in world war 1 was so bad that generals were killing themselfs instead of reporting death totals to the Czar.
- In feudalism 5% of the population owned 60% of the land. The poor was starving and the Czar wouldnt take any action. Peasants owned no land and were wroking long hours for nobility. The people were mad at the Czar and started protesting. The protests caused the Czar to abolish serfdom in 1861, giving peasants more freedoms which helepd them organize evn more protests.
