  • He's right there! I believe Immanuel Kant, so I can't lie!
  • NOOOOOOOO
  • PAUSE! Now, Mr. Kelly has an ethical dilemma right in front of him. Should he tell this man in all pink with a gun thr truth of where Freddy is? Or should he lie and potentially save Freddy's life?
  • According to absolutist Immanuel Kant, if Mr. Kelly lied to the man in pink and saved Freddy's life, he would still be in the wrong. Kant's absolutist belief means that the action ITSELF is wrong snd therefore should never be commited, even in this scenario. In this case, lying is ALWAYS incorrect, no matter the outcome of the lie. Kant believes that if you are not truthful, you are not being moral with no exceptions.

  • He's not here! Jeremy Bentham says I'm doing the right thing!
  • Oh okay! I'll look for him somewhere else.
  • Phew! I am glad Mr. Kelly believes in consequentialism!
  • On the other hand, consequentialist Jeremy Bentham believes that actions are right or wrong based on its consequences, not the action itself. That means if you lie and the outcome impacts others positively, you are still doing the right thing despite lying. In this scenario, if Mr. Kelly believed in Bentham's consequentialist philosophy, he'd be able to lie to the man in pink and save Freddy's life. Bentham would consider this morally correct .
