- This is Mary, you have met her before. She is now 31 years old, and married with 3 kids Jack (11), Nancy (5) and Thomas (5). She is making her way through the Great Depression as best as she can
- I am going to the grocery store

- Mommy can you buy some meat today? We have not had it in a long time

- I am sorry ma'am but you do not have enough money
- Oh...um..that's alright. I will just take out the meat

- Mommy did you get the meat?
- Sorry honey, they didn't have any

- So that we can save it for later and so we can make sure we do not run out.

- But we must be grateful becasue some people have no food at all
- I'm sorry kids we don't have enough and we have to save as much as we can
- That's so sad!
- Yes it is....many people are struggling right now
- The Great Depression took a toll on many families and numerous people faced hardships that you saw in this comic such as not having enough money, kids going away to find work, people unable to pay bills, preserving food, living on the streets and not eating enough
