  • Dorothea Dix discovers conditions of prisoners, 1841
  • Dorothea Dix was an American activist who fought for the rights of prisoners and prison reform. She was also the first person to open mental asylums for the mentally ill, so they weren't kept in prison.
  • They treat us like animals!
