Old Dan is devoted to Little Ann and to Billy and loves to hunt as a team with them. He will not hunt with any other hunter except for Billy, or with any other hound except for Little Ann. What challenges does this character face? He will never leave a raccoon once he is on its trail, although sometimes his impatience gets the best of him, and he loses the trail.

What challenges does this character face?Little Anne is the smaller of the two dogs, but she is still a tough dog. She jumps on the mountain lion and helps kill it, saving Billy. She also endures the freezing night of the hunting competition while other dogs and hunters quit.
