- Paris and Juliet are having a conversation and Paris insists they must get married; Juliet is telling him, No. Juliet goes to Friar to see how she can prevent this from happening and Friar has hope for her. He tells her to go home, sleep on her own without the nurse, and to drink this strange potion. The potion will make her pulse slow and it'll seem that she's dead; they will they put her in a coffin, and Romeo will come get her.
- ACT 4 SCENE 4
- Juliet returns home and finds the Capulet house preparing for her wedding. She tells Lord Capulet, her father, that she consents on marrying Paris and her father is overjoyed. He decides to move the wedding to the next day. Her mother, Lady Capulet disapproves because the short notice won't give them enough time to prepare, but Lord Capulet ignores her. Juliet will be married the next morning.
- ACT 4 SCENE 5
- Juliet tells the nurse that she wants to sleep alone for the night and requests that to Lady Capulet when she arrives. When the nurse leaves, Juliet takes the potion out and wonders if Friar's plan is going to work. She thinks of every possible way that this could go wrong, but she eventually drinks the potion.
- The Capulet household is very busy, getting decorations put up, food made, and gifts wrapped for the wedding. Lady Capulet requests that the nurse goes and gets spices for the dishes. Lord Capulet orders the servants to do certain tasks to make sure everything is perfect for the next day. The nurse commands Lord Capulet to go to bed, but he refuses and says he will be fine.
- The nurse finds Juliet dead. All the commotion from her brings Lord and Lady Capulet's attention up to Juliet's room and they are horrified when they find out what happened. Later on, Friar and Paris arrive to get Juliet, but excitement turns to sorrow and everyone grieves her loss. Friar takes charge, knowing that his plan worked, and starts to prepare for a Juliet's funeral.
