A Monster Calls is the story of boy named Corner. He had many problems including being bullied at school and suffer with his mom's illness. He needs to be with his controlling grandmother because his father remarried and moved to US.
In early part of the movie, it discusses what Corner had to go through when he was only 13 years old. For me, in the begining of the movie was rather boring and cheesy dialogue.
Corner encounters with the monster that appears at his bedroom in every single night. In this movie, special effect are used pretty well. I like the scene that switch between animation and real life.
This monster will show up at 12:07 p.m. and will tell Conor a story. If the monster tells all 3 stories, Conor must tell the monster one story. The three stories the monster tells Corner are intended to enable Corner to overcome his problems and accept the truth.
The mood of the film rather gloomy. I really enjoyed the animated watercolor scenes during storytelling. The storyline is quite complex, making it feel confusing in some scenes.
For those of you who like family movies with fantasy and morality, I recommend you to watch this. Although the storyline of this movie is a bit slow and boring at times, I can assure you that if you watch it you will definitely be impressed with it.
