  • Carlos, we just graduated! Do you know what's next to get our professional Accountant's license here in Colombia?
  • Congrats, Luisa! Yes, it's a crucial step. First, we need the university degree, obviously. Then, we have to accumulate experience.
  • Experience? What kind of experience and how much?

  • The Central Board of Accountants, or JCC for its Spanish acronym, is the body that regulates all this. They require at least one year of certified professional experience in activities related to Public Accounting.
  • One year? Oh, wow! I thought it was direct after university. And how is that experience certified?

  • It's not an exam per se. Once we have the experience and the documentation in order, we must submit the application to the JCC. They review the entire file, and if we meet the requirements, they grant us the professional license. That's the moment we are officially accredited Public Accountants!
