“Ahem, So… you know there is a girl Calandra, the goddess of rain….”
“You know your father is not great at understanding, but if you really are in love, then tell him he will come around eventually, I promise.”
On top of Mount Olympus, Apollo’s eardrums were bursting as Zeus’ stern voice echoed on every wall of the place he was inraged. But Apollo just stood there in shock and was on the verge of bursting into tears , choking over his words. Hura, Calandra and everyone in the palace just stood there in shock. This was so out of character for Zeus but after all, Apollo did break the one rule that no one speaks of.
“I have told you this a million times, there is no love in my castle and if you can’t obey that simple rule, then you can leave!”
5 years prior- Apollo, still young, asks Zeus about love; something that Zeus doesn't think that Apollo should have because according to him, love can blind someone. Apollo obeyed, initially but as he got older he started having crushes. He initially hid this from his father, but one day, hoping Zeus would understand, he told him. But Zeus was caught off guard and was enraged. From that point on, the question of love was forbidden in the castle. Zeus made Apollo promise not to fall in love again. Apollo did, but that wouldn't last long.
Will you be my girlfriend?
Yes!!
As Apollo got older, he and Calandra started falling in love. But, unlike last time, Apollo did not tell his father. He told his mother Hera instead. Hera was different from Zeus in that she was very supportive and understanding of him dating. Even though Apollo really loved Calandra and thought that they could have a life together, he felt terrible about disobeying his father and not telling him. After discussing it with Calandra he decided to confront his dad but he was still nervous about telling him how he reacted last time. He decided to ask his mother for advice.
You where right thank you for helping me love again.
Apollo worked up the courage to tell his father but he immediately was outrage. However, Hera intervened and reminded him that she and he once fell in love as well. Zeus calmed down and told him that the only way he would accept their love was if he could create something more beautiful than the sun. This was because when he and Hera got together, they created the sun in the form of Apollo. Calandra was overjoyed feared failing Zeus’ test. But Apollo and Calandra felt optimistic about there chance.
Even though they were truly in love, Apollo and Calandra could not complete Zeus’ request. They created great things but they simply could beat the sun. Apollo decided to ask Calandra to be his girlfriend. He found a place, a meadow of rainbow flowers and he set up a beautiful picnic. They had dinner when they shared a kiss. A colorful string of light appeared showing their powers connecting, the sun and rain. They decided to name it a rainbow, after the location of their big date. And they realized that they completed Zeus’ request .
The very next day, they went to see Zeus. He was at first skeptical but thanks to Hera did keep his promise and calmly asked to see the rainbow. They kissed, the rainbow blossomed with the beautiful colors in the sky and Zeus had to admit that they did have true love. Apollo and Calandra got married and every year for their anniversary they would celebrate by visiting the meadow and recreating their first kiss and making the most beautiful rainbows. Zeus was proven wrong but he also understood and realized that love will always win.
