- Once back then, Sulla, a general had an army to seize power, and steps down as dictator. Rome also enters a period of civil war. While three men named Crassus, Pompey, and Julius Caesar decided to use their wealth and power to rule Rome together and form the first Trumvirate of Rome.
- Next Julius Caesar declares war on Rome and names himself dictator for life.
- After that Julius Caesar was murdered by members of the Senate who were afraid he wanted to end the republic and also was afraid he would become king. Then three men named Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus all had supported Julius Caesar from the Second Triumvirate of Rome.
- Antony also traveled to Egypt and formed an alliance with Cleopatra, that started a war between Antony and Octavian.
- Right after Antony was defeated, Cicero which was Rome's greatest speaker supported Octavian and believed he would restore the republic. It wasn't too long until Octavian restored the republic but limited the power of the Senate and changed his name to Augustus.
- Finally Augustus had total control and his reign began a long era of peace known as Pax Romana or "Roman Peace". That is when the Roman Empire began.
