  • I think this is where the border's at.
  • Finally. A chance for us to have a better future together!
  • 1954
  • Maria, I'm still concerned that we may be caught.
  • Hector, we'll have more money and more food. You have to take risks eventually.
  • 1948
  • Hector, I think I''m pregnant.
  • Hold on, Maria, WHAT?
  • Hector & Maria's House
  • Probably. I can feel something in there...
  • MARIA, WE BARELY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR OURSELVES.WHAT DO YOU THINK HAVING ANOTHER PERSON IN THE FAMILY WOULD BE LIKE?
  • Hector, stay calm. Think about this.
  • *breath*Stay calm. Stay calm...
  • This is hard.
  • The White House1955
  •
  • This seems like a good deal. It'll get out all of those Mexican immigrants taking jobs from the people.
  • The Bus to Mexico
  • Heard that there were these raids going on. We should probably be cautious.
  • Definitely seems like something to be warned about.
  •
  • ?
  • Mommy, I'm scared. Who knocked on the door?
  • I'll go check the window.
  • Sweetie, I can promise you, it's nothing harmful.
  • Mexico.Days after the departure.
  • Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the building.
  • No "but"s. Exit the building and enter the bus outside.
  • But... what about-
  • What's going on? Who is this guy?
  • W-what about our stuff?
  • You, too. Don't think that because I wasn't facing you, I wasn't talking to you.
  • Bit too late for that now, kid. Into the bus or drastic measures will be taken.
  • Hector was right. We should have been cautious.
  • Daddy, who was that man?
  • How do I break the news to him? He's just a kid!
  • Well, son... let's just say that we're going back to my hometown for a bit: Mexico!
  • Here. 10 pesos. Now get off of the bus. You're on your own now.
  • Well, son, welcome to Mexico.
  • This doesn't seem safe...
  • C'mon, isn't there at least one tree with food on it?
  • Shh... It'll be OK. We'll be back home eventually.
  • Yea, we should probably- wait, hold on. I recognize this area.
  • We've been walking for a while...
  • We're back at the border.
  • Finally... a chance for us to go back home...
  • Operation Wetback is one of the most scarring experiences for those involved. It tore apart those involved in it and changed their perspectives on what they had.Around 1.3 million Mexicans were deported during Operation Wetback. Many returned to the US.
