- 12-year-old Ian comes from a wealthy family in South Sudan. He lives on a beautiful farmland full of fresh soil and beautiful flowers.
- One day Ian was working in his families field when he heard a scream, Mother. Ian runs as fastas he can up to his house, where he found soldiers taking his father to war
- "NO!" Ian yelled. The soldiers throw a gas lamp into Ian's home and it BURST into flames along with the fields.
- Ian watches as his family's home and land burns to the ground, then he runs, he runs away from his life, he runs away from his family, he runs away from his burning home, knowing his life will never be the same again.
- Ian runs for hours and hours until he finds a group of people on their way to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. The leader of the group walks towards him and says, "Who are you?" and Ian says, " I am Ian Dut and i have no house or family to go back to.
- The people of the group accept him as one of their own. On their way to the refugee camp, they run into scary soldiers! the soldiers scan the group, and they grab Ian! "NO PLEASE!" Ian said but the soldiers don't budge. The soldiers are taking Ian to war.
