After winning the Seven Years' War, the British vastly expanded their land in America. However the war was expensive, and they fell into an ocean of debt. To replenish their finances, England searched for new income sources.

Tensions were strained since the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party fueled the ever growing desires for freedom and independence. In response to the Boston Tea Party, Britain passed the Intolerable Acts, which infuriated the colonists even more.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord signify the start of the American Revolutionary War. The British proved that disobedience to the King would not be tolerated, and the colonists showed that they would stand firm against unjust rule and treatment.
The Declaration of Independence displays the nation's democracy, character, and ideals. It gave colonists something to fight for - their freedom, right to pursue happiness, and equality.
