- Hydraulic Action In a fast-flowing river, water is forced into cracks in the bank and breaks the bank up
- Abrasion rocks and stones and sand in the water act like sandpaper and scrape the river bed and banks
- Solution the water dissolves soluble minerals from the bed and banks
- Attrition The rocks and stones bang together and become smaller and rounded
- Traction load larger stones and rocks roll along the river bed
- Saltation Small pebbles and stones are bounced along the river bed
- Solution and suspension dissolved minerals and light particles carried along the river bed
- Deposition Finally, the deposited materials called sediment lost all energy and reach the flatter land in the sea
