- Josef knew what he had to do. He slapped his father across the face. Hard.
- His father began to worry that it would be like the roll calls he experienced at Dachau. Josef's mother tried to assure him it wouldn't be like that. Josef's father was lost in his memories.
- Josef ran to tell his parents that they'd all have to go through medical examinations.
- The doctor came to their row and looked at each person, then moved on. They'd made it.
- It's standard procedure. We just have to be approved by the medical authorities first.
- The next morning, Josef overheard a doctor from Frankfurt explaining why the ship had anchored so far away from Cuba...
- Josef his family joined the other passengers standing in rows.
- His mother tried to console his father, as the doctor walked among them.
- Aaron Landau stood at attention, eyes forward. Like a prisoner.
- Do you want the Nazi's to catch you? That man over there is a Nazi in disguise.
- Josef closed his eyes and fought back tears. He felt terrible for scaring his father like that.
- Josef's family lined up on the deck. The doctor was gone and he'd left Cuban police behind, blocking the only way off the ship.

- We have all the right papers, when will we be allowed into Havana?
