  • New Orleans Purchase (wait...)
  • They just asked if we would buy all of Louisiana...
  • Native American removal
  • Our people are dying!
  • Mexican war
  • Remember the Alamo!
  • When Louisiana didn't turn out as well as France thought it would, they sold it for 15 million dollars to the U.S. when they only wanted New Orleans for 10 million. By doubling their country, the nation started to flourish. Every white man could have their own farm.
  • Texas(southern accent)
  • WE WANT SLAVES!
  • The Cherokee tribe refused to leave Georgia after the treaty was signed, and they were eventually forced onto the trail of tears. On the way to Oklahoma, 4,000 Cherokees died, almost a third of their original 15,000 members. all the while, the white Americans thought they were being kind because they were paying them to leave.
  • "Fifty-four degrees and forty inches or fight!"
  • let's go take our family on a super dangerous trip on the Oregon trail so that we can become rich and have lots of gold while still having a 10% chance of dying on the way!
  • When Mexico won its independence from Spain, Texans started to chafe. They started a war and laid siege on the Alamo, where they killed everyone in the base except for a few woman and small children. Mexico did not recognize Texas' independence when they won the revolution in 1836.
  • "Westward Expansion"[or manifest destiny? (or demonstrate our doom?)]
  • schoolbook
  • Texans were getting restless when the Mexicans wouldn't allow them to have slaves. The Texans started a war (not surprising) and created a base at the Alamo, where everyone eventually died. the Texans won the war and became a republic for 10 years before becoming the 28th state of the U.S.
  • You cant have any!!
  • in 1846, Britain and the United States signed a treaty to settle the dispute over the boundary ("Fifty-four forty or fight!"), causing the U.S to finally have coast-to-coast territory. many farmers and their families took the Oregon Trail to get there in hopes of finding gold and riches. Many Native Americans were forced to move farther west.
  • Sounds great!
  • During what white Americans called "the Age of Manifest Destiny", many native tribes were forced further and further west. it began with the Louisiana Purchase, and the Gold Rush and Oregon trail had a big impact on it. Many Natives died, and tribes suffered, but only now are we apologizing for it.
  • lets Manifest our destiny!!!
