- What is the "Me Too Movement"?
- A social awareness movement around the issue of sexual harassment and sexual abuse.
- The Me Too Movement gained popularity in 2017 when news reports surfaced about allegations by several women of sexual harassment against American film producer Harvey Weinstein.
- Celebrity Alyssa Milano sparked a social media phenomenon when she tweeted in October 2017 (after the Harvey Weinstein accusations) - "if you have been sexually harassed or assaulted write "me too"?
- Within hours of Milano's tweet thousands of people responded to her tweet with #Me too.
- Harvey Weinstein was later convicted of rape and sexual assault and is serving a 20 plus years sentence.
- The "Me Too" Movement and Harvey Weinstein's conviction led to several high profile sexual harassment/sexual abuse cases such as Matt Lauer (former news journalist with NBC)Comedian Bill Cosby, Singer R. Kelly and US Olympics team doctor, Larry Nassar.
