- 5 year old Heather was extremely excited to go to the amusement park with her Mom. She had never been before and there were so many things she wanted to try: the ferris wheel, cotton candy, and most importantly the roller coaster. Her friend Becky had told her all about how exciting it is to ride a roller coaster and she couldn't wait!
- The first thing she did when they went inside was to find the roller coaster. When they were about to get in line suddenly Heather's tummy started to hurt. She told her Mom who told her that it was okay to be nervous, but Heather felt silly.
- Heather was very scared. Three times she made it to the end of the line, but she was so afraid that she turned around. Then she would try again. Finally she found the courage to go on the ride just like she had wanted to do from the beginning.
- When she got off the roller coaster her Mom asked her how it went. In the end she had so much fun on the ride, and she felt extremely proud of herself for overcoming her fear. She would think about that day any time she felt afraid and remember that having courage means to be afraid, but to try anyways.
