A hedgehog evolution storyboard for my homeschooling and also dedicated to my cousin Izzy, who absolutely loves hedgehogs.
Storyboard Text
Let's take a look!
Hedgehogs are cute little animals that live in the woods. They are spiky to protect them from predators and they can curl up into a little ball. But were they always spiky? Were they always small? How did they evolve?
Hedgehogs have been around for a long time! We survived where a LOT of other animals didn't. This is when we first evolved, 15 million years ago! Definitely before your grandparents were born. Our skeleton, teeth and skull look a bit old... you might mistake us for a mini dinosaur! Oh, hi, fellow hedgehog, how are you today - or 15 million years ago, because I'm from the future... um, can you hear me?
...
WELCOME TO EARTH 15 MILLION YEARS AGO
And we're back! You may have noticed that hedgehogs didn't look that different 15 million years ago. That's because we were built so amazingly, we didn't need to change to survive better! There were some evolutions, like the Mediterranean Hedgehog which was the size of a pig, but that species wasn't so great and died out quickly. Can you imagine a hedgehog the size of a pig?! I wonder why they didn't survive so well as our species of hedgehog... well, bye bye!!!
