So what are we going to do? You need to get a job.
A man from child welfare came to visit the Walls while Jeannette was home alone.
Jeannette told her mom about the welfare guy visiting and her mom drew a picture of a woman drowning and they argued a little bit and Jeannette told her mom she needs to get a job or leave dad.
Mom gets a job teaching again and Brian, Lori, and Jeannette has to drag her out of bed to go to work like they did in Battle Mountain.
Rosemary is finally making good money, she makes $700 a month. The kids all brought home extra cash by Jeannette babysitting, Brian cutting weeds and Lori had a paper route.
Rosemary went shopping for things they needed at the house such as, a refrigerator, heaters, canned foods, powdered milk, beans, rice and then the bought something extravagant like a silk throw or a crystal vase.
Their money runs out sooner than it should, they think dad takes it and goes to the bar. The kids are back to starving and digging through trash cans at school for food. Lori and Jeannette asks to budget the money but mom won't give it to them to help.
